No ‘Fairy Dust’ for Yahoo Turnaround

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

I personally spoke with Carol Bartz before her breakfast talk at the New York Athletic Club on Tuesday and I liked what she said. I understand the Yahoo grievances but believe it is better for all if the Bing-Yahoo partnership succeeds.  Small and large advertisers should support the effort.

Google: The Algorithm is Not Always Right.

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Search “Session-based Broad Match” in Bing and you will find knowledgeable advertisers who are very unhappy with the new Google.  It seems that Google’s shift from contextual to behavioral targeting has dramatically increased display rates of irrelevant ads that are clicked on at great expense to advertisers – many times without their knowledge. A Bing representative said they specifically avoid doing this.

“Session-based Broad Match,” which is a recent progression from “Broad Match”, could artificially inflate Google’s revenue to the detriment of advertisers.  View “See Search Terms” within the Keywords section of Google Adwords to see this problem.  The algorithm is not always right. Google should admit it, fix it and reimburse advertisers.

Kaitlyn Loop used on a Cosmetic Dental Crown

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

A Kaitlyn Loop is used here on a cosmetic dental crown to prevent accidental aspiration (being swallowed) if it is dropped in the back of the mouth during insertion.  Dental floss is seen knotted around it.  The Kaitlyn Loop, which is located on the disto-lingual part of the crown, is cut off with a dental drill after cementation.  It will not be seen by the patient.
