Research Lab Assistant New York. University Biology Department, June 2002 – May 2004

Phenotyping of fish and acquisition of data as part of a larger ongoing
independent research project about melanophores  - Fish care which involved
designing and efficient feeding system for over 300 fish, maintenance of more
than 100 tanks, and collaboration with the other lab technicians during periods
of mating and other intense activity

Public School 41 – Kindergarten Teaching Assistant Queens, NY September 2002 – May, 2003

I collaborated with a kindergarten teacher in performing daily activities of teaching. I worked closely with students who needed extra attention and assistance in learning new concepts. I learned how to communicate with children and promoting a nurturing and healthy environment

I performed basic receptionist tasks including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, scheduling of recalls, checking eligibility, filing and organizing charts and billing of patients. I worked closely with patients by keeping track of their visits, translating to Spanish the doctor’s requests, helped with assistaing of those patients that were apprehensive and seating of patients and setting up treatment rooms for the doctor.                 WestingHouse Research Competition at Columbia University with Dr. Chua, January 2000 – May 2001

I performed the tasks of a lab technician to learn computer software, blotting techniques and to gain familiarity with lab procedures, techniques and instruments. The research project was part of an independent research project that was researching the roles of leptin, ACTH and a number of other endocrine molecules to determine their role in metabolism.
